The Best of British
Two of Ipswich’s oldest musical institutions – Ipswich Orpheus Chorale and Amberley Brass – along with Jam Pact, one of the newest players on the local music scene, join forces with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra to present an evening of British music.
Take a thoroughly British musical journey with the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale from the world of British brass bands standards such as Nimrod by Elgar, Jerusalem by Parry, The Floral Dance by Katie Moss through the war years and the music of Dame Vera Lynn (There’ll be bluebirds over and We’ll meet again) with the Amberley Brass Band.
Then let your hair down with the tunes of The Who, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and Queen as Jam Pact rock out with the choir.
Finally relax into the great wealth of British orchestral music performed by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, including Holst (I vow to thee my country) Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera Medley), Britten (Simple Symphony), Rutter (Lord Bless You and Keep You), Handel (Zadok the Priest) and Elgar (Pomp and Circumstance).
This night is not to be missed!
The Ipswich Orpheus Chorale Inc was founded by George Hogg OAM in 1969 and is one of Australia’s premier community choirs with members from Ipswich and surrounding areas. The Ipswich Orpheus Chorale has, on many occasions, been awarded “Champion Choir” at the Queensland Eisteddfod. In 1998 it won all eight sections for large choirs, the first and only time this feat has been achieved in the over 120-year history of the Queensland Eisteddfod movement.
Camerata is a company in residence at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
Camerata was founded in 1987 by acclaimed string educator Elizabeth Morgan AM, as an idealistic ensemble of emerging artists which she then formed into a professional chamber orchestra in 2005.
Performing without a conductor, the Artistic Associates and their guest artists proudly take full ownership of the music to form a thriving, refreshing and acclaimed voice within the Australian arts landscape.
Amberley Brass is a modern brass band proudly based in Ipswich. Based at RAAF Amberley, the band are a mix of serving volunteer Air Force members, Defence contractors, retired Air Force, Army and Navy personnel, spouses and dependents of serving members as well as civilian members from the local community.
