Saturday 1 May 2021 from 9am-4pm

Entry to The Workshops Rail Museum will be free as part of the museum open day during Planes, Trains & Autos.

History will come alive whilst exploring The Workshops Rail Museum. With hands-on exhibits, multi-media encounters and colourful stories coupled with huge locomotives and industrial machinery, there is something for the whole family.

  • More than 15 larger than life exhibitions including the Sciencentre, huge model railway layout, train simulators and the Nippers Railway adventure playground for kids
  • Join a guided Rollingstock Tour and discover more about the amazing locomotives and carriages on display at the museum
  • Kids can also join in the Wind Tunnel activity, by using craft materials to create and design paper planes, that float and fly through wind tunnels.
  • Take an exclusive self-guided walking tour through parts of Queensland Rail’s extensive workshops and see how locomotives and carriages are built and maintained

Ride the first diesel hauled public mixed freight train in 30 years, at Brisbane’s closest and oldest preserved railway experience, Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway. Heritage buses will be travelling between The Workshops Rail Museum and Swanbank Station on the day so visitors to Planes, Trains & Autos can have a real life train adventure.

Train trips leave at 9am, 11am and 1pm, starting from and returning to the Swanbank Station, travelling via the Bundamba Racecourse.

*Please note tickets for the freight train ride must be purchased separately via the link above. This train ride is not included with your entry ticket.
