Put on your walking shoes, fill up your water bottle and get your smartphone camera ready – Elliott Bledsoe from Forgotten Type will take you in search of historic signage on Ipswich’s Brisbane Street.

See the streetscape from a different perspective, soak up some of local history and share some stories as you seek out ‘ghost signs’ and other text remnants.

Hidden in plain sight, fading painted advertising signs, building names, datestones and other text are quiet memorials to companies, people and products that once were a prominent part of the city.

During the tour you’ll learn more about the signs and how they connect to the personalities and places of Ipswich’s past, present and future. Join us at Ipswich Library after the walk for an optional workshop where you’ll learn how to research the signs to uncover their stories.
